Free games to claim: week of August 6, 2026

This week's free games across the major storefronts. Every game on this list is 100% free during the claim window, and the links go to the official claim pages.

Epic Games Store

Epic gives away two free games this week. Claim them before the rotation on August 13, 2026:

1. Control

  • Platform: PC (Epic Games Store)
  • Original price: $29.99
  • Why it's worth claiming: Remedy's 2019 cult hit is a third-person action game with telekinetic powers, a brutalist art-deco setting, and one of the best live-service expansions in recent memory. The base game + the "Ultimate Edition" DLCs all come for free.

Steam — Free to Play highlights

Steam doesn't have a "free game" program like Epic, but several live-service games are running events worth logging in for this week:

  • Apex Legends: mid-season 24 patch dropped yesterday with a Conduit balance pass and the new World's Edge night-mode map variant. Login bonus: 3 free Apex packs.
  • Valorant: Episode 14 Act 2 starts August 8. New battle pass, new agent teasers. Free to play.
  • Marvel Rivals: Season 3 Storm is live, with the "Galactic Storm" event running through August 12. Free Storm legendary skin unlock just for logging in.
  • Warframe: the 1999 final act is wrapping up. The final boss is farmable this weekend only, drops the new "Epitaph" ephemera.

GOG — Free Games

GOG runs a smaller free games program than Epic, but the games are usually higher quality. This week's free game:

1. The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

  • Platform: PC (GOG)
  • Original price: $9.99
  • Why it's worth claiming: CD Projekt Red's 2007 RPG that started it all. The Enhanced Edition includes all the bug fixes, the official mod-launcher support, and runs flawlessly on modern hardware. Essential context before The Witcher 4 lands next year.

Prime Gaming

Amazon Prime members get a free game every week through Prime Gaming. This week's free game:

1. Slay the Spire

  • Platform: PC (Amazon Games app)
  • Original price: $24.99
  • Why it's worth claiming: The deck-building roguelike that defined the genre. The 2026 update added the "Downfall" fan-expansion as official DLC, with 4 new characters. Easily 100+ hours of content.

Mobile — Free Games

For mobile gamers, these games are free-to-play and have major updates this week:

  • Genshin Impact — 5.9 livestream recap dropped August 4. New region "Nod-Krai" and the dual-Element character "Ineffa" are coming in 6.0.
  • Honkai: Star Rail — Version 4.0 launches August 13. The new planet "Amphoreus" and a major story chapter.
  • Marvel Snap — new season pool refresh, with a Spotlight Cache focused on Move/Discard synergies.

What's worth your time

The highest-value claim this week is Control on Epic. The base game + all DLCs for $0 is a steal — if you've never played it, this is the cheapest you'll ever see it.

If you're into tactical shooters, Strinova is a low-risk try. It's free-to-play anyway, but the founder's pack makes the first week much smoother.

For RPG fans, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition on GOG is required reading before the franchise's next chapter.
