League of Legends Worlds 2026 — schedule, format, 17 teams, and how to watch every match

The short version

The 2026 League of Legends World Championship runs Sep 29 - Nov 8, 2026, in three host cities (Berlin, Paris, Los Angeles). 17 teams will compete for the Summoner's Cup, the largest prize pool in League of Legends esports, and a guaranteed spot in the LoL Hall of Legends for the winning roster. The Finals are at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Nov 8.

This guide covers everything you need to follow the tournament: format, the 17 qualified teams, the full schedule, the betting favorites, every official stream, and the meta to expect.

Format: Play-Ins → Swiss → Knockouts

Worlds 2026 uses the same three-stage format as 2024-2025:

Play-Ins (Sep 29 - Oct 4): 8 teams play in 2 groups of 4. The 4 highest-ranked teams from the LCP/LEC/LCS minor regions + 2 teams from China + 2 teams from Korea. Top 2 from each group advance to Swiss.

Swiss (Oct 14 - Oct 23): 16 teams (8 from Play-Ins + 8 direct seeds from the major regions). 5 rounds of Swiss-system matchups — teams that go 3-0 / 3-1 / 3-2 advance to knockout; teams that go 0-3 / 1-3 / 2-3 are eliminated.

Knockouts (Oct 30 - Nov 8): 8 teams in a single-elimination bracket. Quarterfinals are best-of-5, semifinals are best-of-5, Finals are best-of-5.

Total: 17 teams, 3 stages, 6 weeks of play, 1 champion.

The 17 qualified teams (as of Aug 14)

China (LPL) — 4 teams

The LPL has the most Worlds spots in 2026 after China's dominant 2024-2025 international results. All 4 qualified via Championship Points:

  1. Anyone's Legend (LPL #1 seed, 2024 Worlds finalist)
  2. Bilibili Gaming (LPL #2 seed, 2024 Worlds champion)
  3. Top Esports (LPL #3 seed, 2025 MSI finalist)
  4. Weibo Gaming (LPL #4 seed, won the LPL regional finals)

Korea (LCK) — 4 teams

The LCK's 4 spots were the most contested in 2026 — the gap between the #1 and #4 seeds was 1 match:

  1. T1 (LCK #1 seed, 3x Worlds champion Faker back for one more run)
  2. Gen.G (LCK #2 seed, 2025 Worlds finalist)
  3. Dplus KIA (LCK #3 seed, the "Deft retirement tour" roster)
  4. KT Rolster (LCK #4 seed, won the LCK regional finals)

EMEA (LEC) — 3 teams

The LEC returns to 3 spots after the 2025 reduction to 2:

  1. G2 Esports (LEC #1 seed, 2019 Worlds finalist)
  2. Fnatic (LEC #2 seed, the "Bo legacy" roster)
  3. MAD Lions KOI (LEC #3 seed, won the LEC summer finals)

North America (LCS) — 3 teams

The LCS is the only major region with an uncertain Worlds outlook. All 3 spots were decided in the August 10 regional finals:

  1. Team Liquid (LCS #1 seed, the NA "last hope" narrative)
  2. Cloud9 (LCS #2 seed)
  3. FlyQuest (LCS #3 seed, won the regional finals)

Asia-Pacific (LCP) — 2 teams

The LCP was formed in 2025 from the former PCS + VCS, with Japan and Hong Kong teams joining. The 2 spots:

  1. CTBC Flying Oyster (LCP #1 seed, Taiwan)
  2. Chiefs Esports Club (LCP #2 seed, Australia — the first Australian team at Worlds)

Vietnam (VCS) — 1 team

The VCS was suspended in 2024-2025 over match-fixing concerns but returned for 2026:

  1. GAM Esports (VCS #1 seed, the 2019 MSI finalist)

Play-In teams (2)

The final 2 spots go to the lower-seeded teams from the major-region Play-In tournament on Sep 13-15:

  • LCK #5 seed (loser of the LCK regional finals)
  • LCS #4 seed (loser of the LCS regional finals)

These 2 teams will play in the Play-In group with the 8 minor-region teams.

The favorites (betting market, Aug 14)

TeamOddsWhy
T1+350Faker's last ride, 2023-2024 champion core still intact
Bilibili Gaming+400Defending champion, the "goat" roster of Bin/Xun/Knight/Elk/ON
Gen.G+550Chovy is the best mid in the world, 2025 Worlds finalist
Anyone's Legend+700The Knight + Aiming core is the most-improved roster of 2026
G2 Esports+900Caps is the best Western player, 2019 finalist back for redemption
Top Esports+1000Dark horse, 2025 MSI finalist, hard to scout

The "anyone else" tier starts at +2000 and goes up from there. T1 is the betting favorite because the Faker retirement narrative + the team's deep playoff experience = the safest bet.

Meta expectations (Aug 14 patch → Worlds patch)

LoL Worlds uses the patch that ships about 4 weeks before the event (this year, the Worlds patch is 25.18, shipping Sep 16). The Aug 14 patch (25.15) is the closest preview we have:

  • Mid lane: 3 control mages are the meta (Orianna, Syndra, Azir) — expect them to dominate Worlds
  • Jungle: 3 carry junglers (Viego, Vi, Lee Sin) + 1 farming jungler (Kha'Zix) are the meta picks
  • ADC: Caitlyn, Aphelios, Jhin are the top 3
  • Support: Rakan, Lulu, Thresh are the top 3

The Worlds patch will likely buff 1-2 mages and nerf 1-2 bruisers, but the core meta should hold. Expect ~70% of picks to be from the 12 champions listed above.

What to watch for (storylines)

1. Faker's last ride. The GOAT of League of Legends has hinted at retirement after the 2026 season. If T1 wins, it's a perfect ending. If T1 loses early, it's the most-disscussed retirement in esports history.

2. The Bilibili dynasty test. Bili won 2024 + 2025 Worlds. A three-peat would be unprecedented in LoL esports. The roster (Bin/Xun/Knight/Elk/ON) is the most-accomplished in the game's history.

3. NA's last stand. Team Liquid, Cloud9, and FlyQuest are NA's three teams. The last NA team to make a Worlds semifinal was Cloud9 in 2018. If any of the three teams breaks that streak, it's the biggest NA LoL story in 8 years.

4. The Gen.G Chovy narrative. Chovy is widely considered the best player in the world who has never won Worlds. 2025 was his closest (finals loss to Bili). 2026 is his last best chance before the LCK's next generation of mid laners takes over.

5. The first Australian team at Worlds. Chiefs Esports Club qualified via the LCP #2 seed — the first Australian team to compete at Worlds. The "small region" story is always the fan favorite.
