Best cross-progression F2P games (2026) — 14 free games you can play anywhere
The 14 best free-to-play games with real cross-progression in 2026. PC + console + mobile save sync, not the fake "linked account" version. Every pick tells you which platforms, what syncs, and when cross-prog was actually added.

What "cross-progression" actually means
"Cross-progression" is the most-abused term in F2P gaming. Most games say they have it; what they actually have is "linked accounts" that work on a single platform and lock your progress everywhere else. Real cross-progression means your save file syncs across PC, console, and mobile in real time — you can start a match on your Steam Deck, finish it on your PS5, and pick up where you left off on your phone.
This list is the 14 free-to-play games that actually have real cross-progression in 2026. Every pick tells you:
- Which platforms support cross-progression (not just crossplay)
- What syncs (campaign, multiplayer rank, paid currency, etc.)
- When cross-progression was added (recent additions flagged)
- The gotcha (the one thing the cross-prog doesn't cover)
Tier 1: The Gold Standard
1. Fortnite
Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, mobile (iOS + Android), cloud gaming.
What syncs: Everything. Campaign, Battle Pass, V-Bucks, skins, account level, ranked mode stats.
Added: Cross-progression shipped in late 2023. Epic Accounts power the whole system.
Gotcha: Apple iOS users are limited to cloud streaming (no native iOS app since 2020). Cloud streaming works on iOS Safari, just not as a native app.
2. Genshin Impact
Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, mobile (iOS + Android), cloud gaming (HoYoverse's own platform).
What syncs: Everything. Characters, weapons, artifacts, primogems, Welkin/Battle Pass, Spiral Abyss progress.
Added: Cross-progression shipped with release in 2020. The system is built on HoYoverse accounts from day one.
Gotcha: None. Genshin is the gold standard for F2P cross-progression.
3. Honkai: Star Rail
Platforms: PC, PS5, mobile (iOS + Android), cloud gaming (HoYoverse).
What syncs: Everything. Characters, Light Cones, Relics, Stellar Jade, Express Pass.
Added: Cross-progression shipped with release in 2023.
Gotcha: None. HoYoverse has a unified account system across all their games.
4. Warframe
Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, mobile (iOS only via cloud streaming).
What syncs: Everything. Frames, weapons, mods, Platinum, account level, Nightwave progress, quest progress.
Added: Cross-progression shipped in late 2023 after years of being a long-requested feature.
Gotcha: The mobile version is iOS only and runs via cloud streaming. Native mobile is not planned.
5. Marvel Rivals
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, cloud gaming (GeForce Now).
What syncs: Everything. Heroes, skins, Battle Pass, Lattice, ranked mode stats.
Added: Cross-progression shipped with the December 2024 launch. NetEase has unified accounts across all their games.
Gotcha: Mobile version is not yet available. The cloud version works on mobile via GeForce Now but isn't native.
Tier 2: Real Cross-Progression (some limits)
6. Call of Duty: Warzone
Platforms: PC (Battle.net + Steam), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, mobile (iOS + Android via Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile).
What syncs: Most things. Loadouts, Battle Pass, COD Points, weapon unlocks, operator skins.
Added: Cross-progression shipped in 2023 when Activision unified the accounts.
Gotcha: The mobile version (Warzone Mobile) is a separate game with a separate progression track. The "linked" mobile progress is for cosmetics only; ranked mode and weapon unlocks don't carry.
7. Apex Legends
Platforms: PC (Steam + EA App), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, mobile (iOS + Android via Apex Legends Mobile — shutdown in 2023).
What syncs: Most things. Legends, skins, Apex Coins, Battle Pass, ranked mode stats.
Added: Cross-progression shipped in 2022. EA Accounts power the system.
Gotcha: Apex Legends Mobile shut down in 2023. The "mobile" option no longer exists; the closest is the cloud version via GeForce Now.
8. Overwatch 2
Platforms: PC (Battle.net), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch.
What syncs: Most things. Heroes, skins, Competitive Points, Battle Pass, legacy coins (from Overwatch 1).
Added: Cross-progression shipped in 2022 when Overwatch 2 launched. Battle.net accounts power the system.
Gotcha: No native mobile version. Cloud version works on mobile via Xbox Cloud Gaming but isn't native.
9. Destiny 2
Platforms: PC (Steam + Microsoft Store), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, cloud gaming (GeForce Now + Xbox Cloud).
What syncs: Most things. Characters, gear, Silver, Eververse items, seasonal artifact progress.
Added: Cross-progression shipped in 2022 with the Bungie-Activision split. Steam and Microsoft Store share a cross-progression network.
Gotcha: Stadia users lost their accounts when Google shut down Stadia in 2023. The Bungie account is required; the Steam/Microsoft accounts are linked to it.
10. Diablo Immortal
Platforms: PC, mobile (iOS + Android), cloud gaming.
What syncs: Most things. Characters, gear, Eternal Orbs, Battle Pass, Paragon levels.
Added: Cross-progression shipped with the October 2022 launch.
Gotcha: The PC version uses Battle.net accounts; the mobile version uses the same. The "PC" version is a separate download, not a Battle.net launcher.
Tier 3: Partial Cross-Progression
11. The Sims 4 (free-to-play as of 2022)
Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, mobile (iOS + Android).
What syncs: Most things. Households, save files, gallery downloads.
Added: Cross-progression shipped in 2024. EA Accounts power the system.
Gotcha: The mobile version (The Sims Mobile) is a different game with different mechanics. Cross-prog only works for The Sims 4 base game, not The Sims Mobile.
12. Roblox
Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, mobile (iOS + Android), Meta Quest 2/3/Pro.
What syncs: Most things. Robux, account level, game progress, avatar items.
Added: Cross-progression is built into Roblox's account system from day one.
Gotcha: Some games (user-generated content) don't save progress cross-platform. The game itself is cross-prog; the individual UGC game may not be.
13. Rocket League
Platforms: PC (Steam + Epic), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, mobile (iOS + Android via Rocket League Sideswipe — different game).
What syncs: Most things. Cars, decals, wheels, credits, ranked mode stats, Rocket Pass.
Added: Cross-progression shipped in 2020. Epic Accounts power the system (after Psyonix was acquired by Epic).
Gotcha: The mobile version (Rocket League Sideswipe) is a different game with different mechanics. Cross-prog only works for the main Rocket League.
14. Final Fantasy XIV (free trial)
Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S (free trial version).
What syncs: Everything. Characters, gear, gil, MSQ progress, retainers, housing.
Added: Cross-progression shipped in 2024 with the Xbox version. Square Enix accounts power the system.
Gotcha: The Xbox version is a free trial only (up to level 70); the full game requires a paid subscription on any platform. Cross-prog works between the trial and the full version.
What the list doesn't include
This list is real cross-progression only. The following popular F2P games are NOT on the list because their "cross-progression" is fake or partial:
- League of Legends — Riot has been promising cross-prog for 5 years; still not shipped as of August 2026.
- Valorant — same as League. No cross-prog.
- Dota 2 — same. No cross-prog.
- Counter-Strike 2 — same. No cross-prog.
- PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS — cross-prog was tested in 2023 but never shipped.
- Marvel Snap — cross-prog was tested in 2023 but only for the collection, not the ranked mode.
What's next
The cross-progression landscape is shifting fast. The next major additions to watch:
- League of Legends: Wild Rift — Riot has hinted at cross-prog with League of Legends PC; ETA unknown.
- Marvel Snap — Second Dinner has hinted at full cross-prog; ETA 2026-2027.
- Apex Legends Mobile — the shutdown in 2023 was a setback; Respawn may relaunch in 2027.
The next list will be updated after any of these ships.
