CS2 August 13 update — Cache reworked, M4A1-S buffed, Zeus nerfed
Valve shipped a CS2 patch on Aug 13 with a Cache rebalance (mid opened up, A site tightened), an M4A1-S damage buff (36 → 38), a Zeus x27 range nerf (160 → 130 units), and a Trusted Mode fix. Full patch notes inside.

Valve deployed a CS2 patch on Aug 13, 2026 with the following changes. Patch went live at 16:00 UTC and required a client restart.
Cache rebalanced
The Cache map got a mid-focused rework. The headline change is mid opened up: the old warehouse stack is now a single cover position with a wider sightline to B-long. The result is that mid control is harder to hold solo and rotates from T-spawn are faster.
Specific changes:
- Mid warehouse removed (replaced with single cover
crate)
- A site boxes realigned (CT-side boost spot is now
blocked; A-site anchor positions are tighter)
- B-long sightline extended (10 additional units of
visibility from B-tunnel to B-site)
- T-spawn to mid shortened by ~12% (faster rotate)
The intended effect is more mid-action and fewer 5-man A executes. Pro teams are already complaining about the loss of the warehouse stack; expect meta to shift toward more mid-focused defaults.
Weapon changes
M4A1-S (CT rifle):
- Damage increased: 36 → 38 (head), 28 → 30 (body)
- This is a CT-side buff intended to offset the AWP
dominance in the current meta. The M4A1-S was being picked less than 30% of the time in pro matches; Valve wants to push that to ~45%.
Zeus x27 (T-side pistol-round pickup):
- Range reduced: 160 → 130 units
- Damage unchanged (instant kill at any range)
- The Zeus was a meme pick but increasingly common in
pro play as a "anti-eco counter" surprise. The range nerf makes it more situational and rewards actual close-range plays over cheesy spawn-area kills.
Glock-18 (T pistol):
- First-shot accuracy slightly increased when not running
- Marginal buff; the Glock is already strong
Trusted Mode fix
The Trusted Mode crash on Linux (introduced in the Aug 8 patch) is fixed. Players who couldn't launch CS2 in Trusted Mode after the previous update should now be able to play normally.
Map pool changes
No competitive map pool changes. Cache remains in the active duty pool. Anubis is still the most-picked map in ranked; expect Cache to see more action with the mid rework.
Community reaction
Reddit's r/GlobalOffensive is split:
- Casual players like the M4A1-S buff and the Zeus nerf
- Pro players (Natus Vincere, FaZe Clan, G2 Esports)
are pushing back on the Cache rework in social posts
- Map designers are calling the mid rework a "step
backward" from the original Cache's design philosophy
Expect a follow-up patch within 2-3 weeks if pro feedback stays negative.
How to verify the patch
- Check the CS2 main menu for the patch version
(should show 1.40.5.5 or later)
- Launch Cache in casual mode to see the new mid layout
- Inspect the M4A1-S in the buy menu — damage should show
38 headshot
