LoL Worlds 2026 group draw — Gen.G vs T1 in Group A, three Chinese teams carry the West
The Worlds 2026 group draw produced a brutal Group A (Gen.G, T1, G2, PSG) and three Chinese teams in Groups B–D. Here's the bracket, the marquee matchups, and which teams have the easiest path to playoffs.

Worlds 2026 group draw
The Worlds 2026 group draw concluded this morning in Shanghai, with the 16 qualified teams placed into four groups of four. The draw produced one of the most anticipated Group A matchups in Worlds history — and a brutal schedule for the LEC's #2 seed.
The four groups
Group A: Gen.G (LCK #1), T1 (LCK #3), G2 (LEC #2), PSG Talon (PCS #1) Group B: T1's killer — Bilibili Gaming (LPL #1), Team Liquid (LCS #1), Movistar R7 (LLA #1), LOUD (CBLOL #1) Group C: Anyone's group — Weibo Gaming (LPL #2), KT Rolster (LCK #2), MAD Lions (LEC #1), CFO (PCS #2) Group D: Soft group — JD Gaming (LPL #3), Hanwha Life (LCK #4), Fnatic (LEC #3), GAM Esports (VCS #1)
The marquee matchup: Gen.G vs T1 in Group A
The draw's biggest story: Gen.G and T1 are in the same group for the first time at Worlds since 2022. Both teams are top-three in the LCK, both have recent international titles, and the group stage is now a best-of-three preview of a potential semifinal.
The LPL fans are not happy — Bilibili Gaming got the "Group of Life" with Team Liquid and the minor-region teams, while Gen.G drew the tournament's hardest group.
What this means for the LEC
The LEC is the only major region with three teams in the same group (Group C, where MAD Lions is joined by Weibo and KT). The good news: MAD avoids Gen.G and T1 in groups. The bad news: the only LEC team that can escape groups is probably G2, and they drew the hardest possible group.
LEC's three teams:
- G2 (Group A) — has to beat Gen.G and T1 to escape. Realistic ceiling: 2-4 group stage.
- MAD Lions (Group C) — best case scenario. 4-2 or 5-1 is achievable against Weibo + KT + CFO.
- Fnatic (Group D) — 3-3 group stage is the realistic ceiling. JD Gaming is the favorite.
The Chinese angle
The LPL is the deepest major region this year, with three of the four Worlds favorites by most power rankings (Bilibili, Weibo, JD Gaming). The draw is favorable for all three — each one drew a Western team in their group, and the LCK teams are spread across three different groups (Gen.G + T1 stack Group A, KT is in Group C, Hanwha in Group D).
The likely LPL bracket:
- Bilibili Gaming finishes 1st in Group B
- Weibo Gaming finishes 1st or 2nd in Group C
- JD Gaming finishes 1st in Group D
If all three win their groups, the LPL has a 75%+ chance of making the semifinals. The LPL is favored to win Worlds for the fourth year in a row.
The Group B free-for-all
Bilibili Gaming is the LPL #1 seed and one of the tournament favorites, but Group B is unusual: it's Bilibili + 3 minor-region teams. The minor-region teams (Movistar R7, LOUD, GAM Esports) are all wildcard picks that earned their slots through regional finals.
The realistic best case for Team Liquid: split with Bilibili and sweep the minor-region teams, finishing 5-1 or 4-2. Liquid is the only LCS team that has a shot at groups this year.
The knockout bracket
Top 2 from each group advance to the knockout stage. The draw for the knockout bracket happens after the group stage concludes:
- Group A 1st vs Group B 2nd
- Group C 1st vs Group D 2nd
- Group B 1st vs Group A 2nd
- Group D 1st vs Group C 2nd
The bracket is reseeded at the quarterfinal stage, so a semifinal against a 1st-place finisher is always possible. The format rewards group-stage performance but doesn't guarantee a soft quarterfinal.
When Worlds starts
The Worlds 2026 main event runs from September 25 to October 31 in Shanghai, with the same Swiss-system group stage format as 2024 and 2025. Playdays are scheduled for weekends to maximize viewership in the EU and NA timezones.
If you only watch one matchup: Gen.G vs T1 on day 1 of the group stage. Two of the best teams in the world, playing for seeding in a group they both have to escape.
