Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 hotfix — map changes, weapon nerfs, and the new live event countdown
Fortnite 34.20 lands with a small map rework, three weapon nerfs (including the controversial Drum Gun), and the start of the live event countdown. Here's what changes and how to prep.

Highlights
- Added a new underground POI called "The Cavern" — accessible via a zipline from the main building
- The palm tree ring at the center is now destructible (wood material), opening up new sniping angles
- A new "Observation Deck" on the roof
- A new zipline that goes from the deck down to the surrounding area
Bug fixes
- Fixed a crash that occurred when entering The Collider with a full inventory
- Fixed the Rocket Ram not being able to launch through certain destructible walls
- Fixed the Nitro Fists gloves not applying the speed boost when used while crouched
- Fixed an issue where the Victory Crown would not appear on the player's banner after winning a match
- Fixed a stutter that occurred when transitioning from the pre-game lobby to the Battle Bus
Other
- The 34.20 patch dropped this morning. It's a smaller mid-season update, but it has three changes that matter for competitive play and one that matters for casual players (the live event countdown).
- Paradise Palms was the weakest landing spot on the Chapter 6 map — the loot density was low, the rotation options were limited, and it got ignored by 90% of competitive players. The 34.20 rework:
- The Cavern has vault-tier loot (2-3 chests, a guaranteed rare item)
- The surrounding area got extra vehicle spawns
- The change makes Paradise Palms a real landing spot for the first time since Chapter 4. Expect to see pro players contesting it in FNCS tournaments this weekend.
- If you haven't been to the center of the map in Chapter 6 yet, the "Collider" POI is the largest single structure ever built in a Fortnite BR map. The 34.20 patch adds:
- A chest spawn inside the observation deck
- The Observation Deck is now the highest chest-spawn point on the map. The catch: it's incredibly exposed, and you can be sniped from at least 4 different angles. Only land here if you have a coordinated squad.
- The Drum Gun was the most-used weapon in competitive play this season. The nerf:
- Magazine size: 50 → 40
- Damage per bullet: 25 → 22
- Recoil increased by ~15%
- The damage per second drops from ~250 to ~220, which is still strong but no longer oppressive. You'll want to use it for close-range spray control, not as your primary weapon.
- The Havoc Pump has been underperforming since the Chapter 6 launch. The buff:
- Damage per pellet: 85 → 95
- Headshot multiplier: 1.75x → 2.0x
- Fire rate unchanged
- The headshot multiplier change is the real buff — a headshot with the Havoc Pump now does 190 damage, which is enough to one-shot any player at full health. This is a direct counter to the Drum Gun nerf.
- Big Shield Potion: gives 100 shield (unchanged)
- Shield Potion: gives 50 shield (was 50, unchanged)
- Mini Shield Potion: gives 25 shield (was 25, unchanged)
- Slurp Juice: 1 HP/sec for 10 seconds (was 1 HP/sec for 5 seconds, buffed)
- The Slurp Juice buff is significant — it now restores 10 HP total, double the previous amount, over the same time. If you find Slurp Juice, it's now worth using instead of small shield potions.
- The big news for casual players: a **new live event** is starting August 12. The patch includes the start of the in-game countdown and a new "Observation Deck telescope" that lets you preview the event's intro cinematic.
- The event itself is rumored to be a "Galactic Collision" storyline continuation, picking up from the Chapter 5 finale. If you want to see the event live, the start time is **August 12 at 2 PM ET / 11 AM PT / 7 PM BST**.
- Improved frame pacing on PC by ~8% in the central map areas
- Reduced memory usage by ~200MB on consoles
- The Chapter 6 Season 4 live event is the major event of the season. After that, expect the season to wrap up in late September with the Chapter 6 finale and the start of Chapter 7 in early October.

Fortnite 34.20 — mid-season hotfix
The 34.20 patch dropped this morning. It's a smaller mid-season update, but it has three changes that matter for competitive play and one that matters for casual players (the live event countdown).
Map changes
Paradise Palms got reworked
Paradise Palms was the weakest landing spot on the Chapter 6 map — the loot density was low, the rotation options were limited, and it got ignored by 90% of competitive players. The 34.20 rework:
- Added a new underground POI called "The Cavern" — accessible via a zipline from the main building
- The Cavern has vault-tier loot (2-3 chests, a guaranteed rare item)
- The surrounding area got extra vehicle spawns
- The palm tree ring at the center is now destructible (wood material), opening up new sniping angles
The change makes Paradise Palms a real landing spot for the first time since Chapter 4. Expect to see pro players contesting it in FNCS tournaments this weekend.
The collider at the center of the map
If you haven't been to the center of the map in Chapter 6 yet, the "Collider" POI is the largest single structure ever built in a Fortnite BR map. The 34.20 patch adds:
- A new "Observation Deck" on the roof
- A chest spawn inside the observation deck
- A new zipline that goes from the deck down to the surrounding area
The Observation Deck is now the highest chest-spawn point on the map. The catch: it's incredibly exposed, and you can be sniped from at least 4 different angles. Only land here if you have a coordinated squad.
Weapon changes
Drum Gun (Nerfed)
The Drum Gun was the most-used weapon in competitive play this season. The nerf:
- Magazine size: 50 → 40
- Damage per bullet: 25 → 22
- Recoil increased by ~15%
The damage per second drops from ~250 to ~220, which is still strong but no longer oppressive. You'll want to use it for close-range spray control, not as your primary weapon.
Havoc Pump (Buffed)
The Havoc Pump has been underperforming since the Chapter 6 launch. The buff:
- Damage per pellet: 85 → 95
- Headshot multiplier: 1.75x → 2.0x
- Fire rate unchanged
The headshot multiplier change is the real buff — a headshot with the Havoc Pump now does 190 damage, which is enough to one-shot any player at full health. This is a direct counter to the Drum Gun nerf.
Shield Potions (Adjusted)
- Big Shield Potion: gives 100 shield (unchanged)
- Shield Potion: gives 50 shield (was 50, unchanged)
- Mini Shield Potion: gives 25 shield (was 25, unchanged)
- Slurp Juice: 1 HP/sec for 10 seconds (was 1 HP/sec for 5 seconds, buffed)
The Slurp Juice buff is significant — it now restores 10 HP total, double the previous amount, over the same time. If you find Slurp Juice, it's now worth using instead of small shield potions.
The new live event countdown
The big news for casual players: a new live event is starting August 12. The patch includes the start of the in-game countdown and a new "Observation Deck telescope" that lets you preview the event's intro cinematic.
The event itself is rumored to be a "Galactic Collision" storyline continuation, picking up from the Chapter 5 finale. If you want to see the event live, the start time is August 12 at 2 PM ET / 11 AM PT / 7 PM BST.
