CS2 Cache Premier + C4 rework update: full August 3 patch notes
The August 3 CS2 update adds Cache to Premier Active Duty, the C4 damage rework, two new weapon collections (Arabesque + Spy Tech), 5 new community maps, and the Source 2 engine update. The biggest CS2 update since the Cache return.

The Counter-Strike 2 update on August 3, 2026 is the second Cache update — and the one that adds Cache to Premier Active Duty with the full C4 damage rework.
What changed in the August 3
update
C4 damage rework
The main gameplay change is a complete overhaul of how C4 bomb explosion damage is calculated:
- Damage values are precomputed
through simulation and embedded directly into each map
- The shockwave expands quickly
from the center of the blast rather than applying damage immediately
- The wave dissipates around corners
and does not pass through walls
- **Players farther away have a better
chance to survive** by running away
- **A preview appears on the player's
health bar** showing how they would fare if the bomb went off
The change makes post-plant positioning more dynamic and rewards players who rotate away from the bomb site. The "one-shot kill at any distance" era of CS2 is officially over.
Cache Premier Active Duty
Cache is now in the Premier Active Duty map pool, replacing Overpass which is removed. Cache was added to Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, and Retakes modes in late June, but the Premier placement waited until after the IEM Cologne 2026 Major.
Cache's Active Duty rotation is the first time a community-vote map has entered the pool since Cobblestone in 2018.
New weapon collections
Two new Armory collections were added:
- Arabesque (Assault rifles, SMGs,
pistols, knives)
- Spy Tech (sniper rifles, gloves,
stickers)
Two sticker collections were also added: Fruits & Vegetables and Auto Racing.
The Train 2025 and Sport & Field weapon collections, and the Sugarface 2 and Elemental Craft sticker collections, are no longer available.
5 new community maps
Five community-created maps are now in CS2:
- Boulder — Competitive, Casual,
Deathmatch
- Fachwerk — Competitive, Casual,
Deathmatch
- Shelter — Competitive, Casual,
Deathmatch
- Debris — Wingman
- El Dorado — Wingman
Removed: Warden, Stronghold, Alpine, Sanctum (from all modes).
Source 2 engine update
Valve updated CS2 to the latest version of Source 2. The patch notes did not specify performance or visual enhancements from the engine update.
Other improvements include:
- Better performance when the
Scoreboard is displayed using the Tab key
- Various visual bug fixes
- Clipping changes across all maps
Bug fixes
- Cache: Fixed multiple gaps
throughout the map, corrected collision issues, fixed flickering on certain assets, eliminated a boosting location in Outside A
- Dust II: Fixed the pixel gap
outside the tunnel, clipping adjustment in the same area
- Inferno: Fixed pixel boosting
at the top of Mid
- Shelter: Updated to the most
recent Community Workshop version
Map scripting improvements
- Instance.TracePlayer added
- Instance.OnWeaponPickup added
- Instance.OnBombExplode added
- Instance.SpawnGrenadeProjectile
added
- Instance.OnWeaponDrop dropper
added
- Instance.OnGrenadeBounce now
includes hitEntity and normal
- CSGrenadeProjectileBase gains
GetGrenadeType, GetThrower, Detonate
- CSPlantedC4 gains IsBombsiteA,
IsBombsiteB, GetPlanter, GetDefuser, IsActive, IsExploded, IsDefused, GetPlantTime, GetExplodeTime, GetDefuseStartTime, GetDefuseFinishTime
- CSPlayerPawn.HasDefuser and
SetHasDefuser added
- CSGrenadeType enumeration added
The scripting changes are a major win for community map and mod developers. The new methods expose the full state of grenades and the bomb to workshop scripts, enabling much richer custom game modes.
Why it matters
The C4 rework is the most-significant CS2 gameplay change since launch. The "instant 550 damage at any range" era of CS2 (inherited from CS:GO) rewarded whoever was closest to the bomb at detonation. The new shockwave model rewards positioning, which is more in line with Valorant and modern tactical shooters.
Cache is also the first community- vote map to make Active Duty, setting a precedent for the next map pool rotation (rumored to be Season 6 in Q1 2027).
What's next
The next CS2 update is rumored to be the Cache balance pass (the Active Duty debut usually gets a week-1 patch to fix dominant strategies), followed by the Fall Operation (rumored to be "Operation Breakthrough" in October).
