Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls launches August 6, 2026
Arc System Works' 4v4 tag-team Marvel fighter launches August 6 for PS5 and PC. First reviews surface same day. The most- anticipated new fighting game since Street Fighter 6.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls launches today, August 6, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and PC. Developed by Arc System Works (the studio behind Guilty Gear Strive and Dragon Ball FighterZ) and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the game is the first new major fighting game release since 2XKO in October 2025.
What's in the launch
- 4v4 tag team format — closest cousin to Marvel
vs. Capcom, but with 4 characters per side
- 22 launch characters (more than 2XKO's 12)
- 2-button simplified input scheme (Light +
Heavy) — designed for new players
- Story mode (single-player, ~8 hours)
- Ranked online with cross-play
- Tournament mode (Spectate + Casual)
The launch roster includes:
- Spider-Man
- Iron Man
- Captain America
- Storm
- Doctor Doom
- Magneto
- Star-Lord
- Black Panther
- Captain Marvel
- Riri Williams (Ironheart)
- Ms. Marvel
- Winter Soldier
- And 10 more at launch, with **6 more coming by
year-end**
How it compares to 2XKO
- 2XKO: 2v2, 4 buttons, League of Legends IP
- Marvel Tokon: 4v4, 2 buttons, Marvel IP
Both are designed for new players. 2XKO has the better netcode and F2P model. Marvel Tokon has the bigger IP and more content. They're targeting different audiences.
Reviews are live
Metacritic reviews drop at launch. The early previews from CGMagazine, GoSuGamers, and IGN (the closed beta in June) were positive:
- Pros: "Flashy, addictive, simple to pick up"
(GoSuGamers), "the most accessible tag fighter ever" (CGMagazine)
- Cons: "2-button scheme is divisive — purists
want 6 buttons" (Polygon)
Price and business model
- $59.99 standard edition (PS5, PC)
- $79.99 Digital Deluxe (includes Season Pass
for 6 DLC characters through 2026)
- Free trial available on PS Plus Essential
from launch day through August 13
Unlike 2XKO, Marvel Tokon is NOT free-to-play. Sony and Arc System Works chose the premium model to ensure the team can support the game for multiple years.
Why it matters
Marvel Tokon is Sony's first big FGC push since buying Evo in 2021. The publisher sees a $200M+ annual opportunity in the fighting game community and is positioning Tokon as its flagship. If successful, expect Sony to push harder on FGC acquisitions and partnerships.
What's next
The first balance patch lands September 3 based on launch-week data. The first DLC character (rumored to be Wolverine) is expected by November. A rollback netcode update is in development for late 2026.
FAQ
When does Marvel Tokon launch?
August 6, 2026 for PS5 and PC. No Switch version yet (rumored for 2027).
Is Marvel Tokon free-to-play?
No, $59.99 standard. A free trial is available on PS Plus through August 13.
How is Marvel Tokon different from
Marvel vs. Capcom?
Tokon is 4v4 (MvC is 3v3), has 2-button inputs (MvC has 6), and is tag-focused with simplified mechanics. MvC is the more technical game; Tokon is the more accessible one.
