Standout performances

Satanic, TEAM VISION (Position 1 / Carry) — The 18-year-old PARIVISION carry went 11-2-8 in game 1 vs Resilience. VISION's Round 1 was the closest series of the day (2-1) but the talent on display was clear. Satanic is the breakout carry of the 2025-2026 DPC season.

33, Iron Wing (Position 2 / Mid) — The two-time TI champion (TI 2022 with Tundra, TI 2024 with Team Liquid) returned to the TI stage with a 2-0 over HULIGANI. 33's hero pool is the deepest in the tournament — Primal Beast, Mars, Ember Spirit, Puck, and Outworld Destroyer are all in his comfort zone.

Yatoro, Team Spirit (Position 1 / Carry) — The two-time TI champion (TI 2021, TI 2023) opened the tournament with a 2-0 over Xtreme Gaming. Yatoro's Medusa and Gyrocopter were the difference in both games. Spirit is the early favorite for the upper bracket.

Kiritych~, BoomBoys (Position 1 / Carry) — BoomBoys' carry went 8-3-9 on Medusa in the 2-0 over OG. BoomBoys (BetBoom Team's broadcast tag) is the second-favorite for the upper bracket after Falcons.

Pakazs, Aurora Gaming (Position 1 / Carry) — Aurora's carry was the best on a CIS team on Day 1. The 2-0 over GamerLegion was a clinical performance; Pakazs's Medusa was untouchable in game 2.

Day 1 surprises

Iron Wing's 2-0 over HULIGANI was the first Bo3 the Tundra-roster-rebranded team played at a TI under the Iron Wing tag. The team's performance was the best on a direct-invite non-favorite on Day 1. The HULIGANI roster (formerly L1GA TEAM) is one of the weakest in the tournament on paper, but Iron Wing's 2-0 was the cleanest sweep of the day.

TEAM VISION's closer-than-expected 2-1 over Team Resilience — the favorite's Round 1 was a 3-game series instead of a 2-0. Resilience played the Bo3 close; game 1 went 36 minutes and VISION only sealed game 3 with a 40:18 kill lead. The team is still the favorite, but the tape shows they're not untouchable.

HULIGANI's 0-2 start — the EU qualifier team (L1GA TEAM under the broadcast tag) opened with two Bo3 losses (Iron Wing, then BoomBoys on Aug 14). The 0-2 start puts them in the elimination bracket. HULIGANI is the most likely team to go 0-4.

What to watch on Day 2 (Aug 14)

Day 2 opens with the second set of group matches. The 1-0 teams play each other (TEAM VISION vs Team Falcons is the marquee); the 0-1 teams play each other (HULIGANI vs Nigma Galaxy is the elimination match). By end of Day 2 we'll know the top 4 and the bottom 4 of the Swiss bracket.

The marquee series is TEAM VISION vs Team Falcons at 08:00 UTC — both teams 1-0, both looking like championship form. The winner is the de facto favorite for the 3-0 upper bracket berth.

The Swiss format means Day 2 is where the bracket starts to separate. 1-0 teams play other 1-0 teams for a fast upper-bracket push; 0-1 teams play other 0-1 teams to avoid the elimination zone. By end of Day 2 we'll know the 4 teams that are 2-0 and the 4 teams that are 0-2.

Where the meta sits after Day 1

  • Io and Chen are both 100% pick/ban — the hard support pool is narrow
  • Primal Beast dominated the offlane (12 picks across 8 games)
  • Medusa and Spectre are the two carry signatures — both teams with a 1-0 start ran one of them
  • Death Prophet quietly has the highest win rate of any mid (3-1 across Day 1)
  • No Aghanim's Shards cheese in any of the 8 games — the meta is stable, not experimental

The group stage runs through Aug 16. Playoffs start Aug 20. Grand final is Aug 23.
