Valorant 11.0 Act 1 — what to expect

Riot confirmed today that Valorant 11.0 Act 1 will ship on August 14, 2026. The patch is the start of the VCT 2027 competitive season and is one of the larger mid-year patches in Valorant's history: a new agent, a map rotation, a ranked overhaul, and a handful of weapon balance changes.

This is what we know.

The new agent: "Cypher rework" or "new Controller"?

Riot hasn't officially confirmed the new agent's name or role, but the August 1 PBE (Public Beta Environment) datamine points to a Controller named "Vesper" with the following kit:

  • Passive — Siphon Aura: Vesper generates a small aura that reduces enemy healing received by 15% within 8 meters.
  • Ability 1 — Smokescreen: 2 charges, 60s recharge, places a smoke that lasts 8s.
  • Ability 2 — Recall Mine: A deployable that triggers a 1.5s enemy root when they enter its radius, then re-arms after 30s.
  • Ultimate — Void Zone: A 20-meter zone that silences all enemy abilities and drains 20 mana per second for 6 seconds.

Vesper's kit is unusual for a Controller — the silence + mana drain ult is more Sentinel than Controller, and the recall mine is closer to a Sentinel trap. The kit is expected to be a flex pick that anchors Controller main but can flex to Sentinel on certain maps.

The agent is confirmed to ship with 11.0 Act 1 on August 14.

Map rotation: Abyss + Pearl in, Split + Bind out

The 11.0 map rotation drops Split and Bind from the competitive pool and adds Abyss and Pearl. This is a 4-map change — the largest single-patch rotation since the Bind/Haven/Split/Ascent era ended in 2024.

The full competitive map pool for 11.0 Act 1:

  • Ascent
  • Haven
  • Icebox
  • Lotus
  • Abyss (newly competitive)
  • Pearl (returning)

Split is being benched for the third time in Valorant's history, and Bind is being benched for the first time since 2023. Both maps are expected to return in 12.0 with a rework (the Bind rework has been in development since March 2026; the Split rework was greenlit after the 10.5 community survey).

Abyss and Pearl are both "deep" maps with multiple level changes, which favors Controller-heavy compositions. Expect Vesper and the existing Controllers (Brimstone, Omen, Viper) to be in every pro game.

Ranked system overhaul

The biggest ranked change since the introduction of Ascendant in Episode 4:

  • A new tier is added: "Mythic" — sits above Immortal (3) at the top 0.1% of players. Mythic players get a unique badge, a unique skin, and direct seeding into the VCT Challengers open qualifier.
  • Rank decay is reduced from 7 days of inactivity to 14 days. The change addresses the "I can't play for a week without losing my rank" complaint that has been a top community issue since 2024.
  • Matchmaking is broadened for Immortal (3) and above. Currently, Immortal 3 only matches with other Immortal 3 players in the same region; the new system allows ±1 rank matching for the top 0.5%, which should reduce queue times from 8-12 minutes to 3-5 minutes.
  • A new placement system is added for new accounts: 10 placement games, with the final rank based on percentile rather than wins. This addresses the "my friend made a new account and got placed in Silver despite being Diamond" complaint.

Weapon balance changes

Three confirmed weapon changes:

  • Vandal: Headshot damage reduced from 160 to 155. Body damage unchanged. The nerf targets the 56% Vandal pick rate in pro play (the Phantom is at 41%; the gap is the largest in Valorant history).
  • Operator: First-shot accuracy increased from 95% to 100% (was previously reduced in 10.5). The change reverses the "you have to scope twice on a long-range duel" mechanic that has frustrated Operator mains since 2024.
  • Sheriff: Equip time reduced by 0.15s. The buff is targeted at the "sidearm round" meta, which has been dominated by the Shorty since 10.5.

What it means for the VCT 2027 season

11.0 Act 1 is the start of the VCT 2027 competitive season. The first major tournament of the season is VCT Game Changers Championship 2026 (Sep 22-Oct 4), followed by VCT Champions 2026 (Oct 14-Nov 1).

Pro teams will have ~2 weeks to prepare on 11.0 before Game Changers. Vesper is the highest-priority learning target — every team needs to have a Vesper comp ready by Sep 22.

FAQ

Q: When does Valorant 11.0 release? A: August 14, 2026. Riot patches Valorant every 2 weeks; 11.0 is the next major version. The exact time is usually 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm UK.

Q: Who is the new agent in 11.0? A: Almost certainly Vesper, a Controller with a silence + mana drain ultimate. The kit was datamined from the PBE on August 1. Riot has not officially confirmed the name or role, but the abilities match the test branch build.

Q: Why are Split and Bind being removed? A: Split has the lowest pro play rate (8% pick rate in VCT 2026) and Bind has been a community-derided "Bind is bad" meme since 2023. Both are being benched for rework. Abyss and Pearl are being added because they have higher pick rates in the PBE and offer more strategic depth.

Q: What is the new Mythic rank? A: Mythic is the rank above Immortal 3. It represents the top 0.1% of players in each region. Mythic players get a unique badge, a unique weapon skin (gold-tinged Vandal), and direct seeding into the VCT Challengers open qualifier.

Q: Will my rank decay if I take a vacation? A: The decay period is being increased from 7 to 14 days. So if you take a week off, you won't lose rank. After 14 days, decay starts (1 tier per week of inactivity).

Q: Where can I watch the new patch release stream? A: The official Valorant Twitch channel and YouTube channel will run a release show on August 14 at 10am PT. We embed both at /channels/riotgames and /channels/valorant — the stream switches to "live" automatically when Riot's broadcast goes up.
