WoW 'Curse of Ula'tek' content update ships Aug 13 — Venomous Abyss raid, Season 2
WoW's Midnight expansion continues with Curse of Ula'tek on Aug 13. New Venomous Abyss raid (8 bosses), Altar of Fangs M+ dungeon, new Delves, Season 2. Meta-shift implications for M+ and PvP.

Blizzard deployed World of Warcraft's "Curse of Ula'tek" content update on Aug 13, 2026. The update continues the Midnight expansion (which launched Jun 24) and adds the Venomous Abyss raid, Altar of Fangs dungeon, new Delves, Season 2 challenges, and housing updates.
What's new
Venomous Abyss raid (8 bosses, Normal/Heroic/Mythic)
The headline addition is an 8-boss raid set in the Coiled Isle, a new zone accessible via the Midnight campaign. The raid is themed around a cursed snake-worshipping cult and features:
- 8 bosses across 3 wings
- Item level 685 loot (Heroic), 700 (Mythic)
- 3 new tier sets:
- Coils of the Deep Serpant (mail DPS set,
agility/int)
- Fang-Blessed Vestments (leather DPS set,
agility)
- Coiled Hierophant (cloth DPS set, intellect)
- 2 new weapons with unique effects:
- Ula'tek's Venomous Fang (dagger, increases
poison damage by 15% for 12s on hit)
- Coiled Stave of the Hierophant (staff,
summons a snake companion that fights for you for 30s on a 3min cooldown)
The raid opens with Normal + Heroic on Aug 13, and Mythic difficulty + the first wing of Mythic+ dungeons the following week (Aug 20).
Altar of Fangs dungeon (Mythic+ keystone)
A new Mythic+ dungeon accessible from the Coiled Isle zone. The dungeon is a 3-boss instance in a snake temple, with:
- 3 bosses: Fang Prophet, Coiled Hierophant,
Ula'tek the Undying
- 5 trash packs with unique mechanics
- Affixes: Teeming (more mobs), Volcanic
(exploding ground), Fortified (mobs hit harder) — standard M+ rotation
The dungeon is required for the M+ rotation (replaces one of the existing dungeons in the active pool).
New Delves (3 new)
Three new Delves (WoW's 1-4 player dungeon alternative):
- Fang-Touched Caverns (Bioluminescent
exploration theme)
- The Sunken Sanctum (Underwater combat theme)
- Coiled Ritual Chamber (Trap-heavy theme)
All three Delves are available at all difficulty tiers (1-13) and reward Hero track gear at tier 11+.
Season 2 challenges
The Season 2 PvP and M+ season launches on Aug 20 with:
- New M+ affix: Venomous (all enemies leave
poison pools on death; players standing in the pools take 5% max HP/sec)
- New PvP brawl: Coiled Skirmish (8v8
capture-the-flag on a Coiled Isle map)
- New M+ reward: Reaved Satchel (a new
cosmetic back piece that scales with your highest M+ clear)
Housing updates
The housing system gets:
- 3 new house plots in the Coiled Isle zone
- 15 new housing items (Coiled Isle-themed
furniture, lighting, decor)
- 2 new house styles (Coiled Stone, Sunken
Timber)
What's worth playing
Definitely play:
- Venomous Abyss raid (Normal) — even casual
players can clear this on Normal within 2-3 weeks. The loot is BiS for the next 6 months
- Altar of Fangs dungeon (M+) — required for
M+ rating. Worth learning the routes
- Fang-Touched Caverns Delve (Tier 11+) — the
bioluminescent theme is the best visual content in the update
Skip if you're casual:
- Mythic raid — only the top 1% of guilds will
clear this in the first 2 months
- Season 2 M+ push — only worth pushing if
you're already at 2500+ rating
- Housing — optional, can wait
Meta-shift implications
The new raid loot will immediately shift the M+ meta:
- Agility classes (Demon Hunters, Survival
Hunters) get a big boost from the Coiled Serpent set and the Fang-Blessed Vestments
- Healers see a small nerf (no new healer
loot in this update — the new sets are all DPS)
- Tank meta is unchanged (no new tank sets)
For PvP, the new Venomous affix in M+ is the big shakeup. It rewards:
- Ranged DPS (easier to dodge poison pools)
- Self-healing specs (Demon Hunters, Feral
Druids, Discipline Priests)
- Movement-heavy specs (Windwalker Monks,
Subtlety Rogues)
M+ teams running melee-heavy compositions (Unholy DK, Arms Warrior) will struggle with the new affix.
Comparison to previous WoW content patches
| Patch | New raid bosses | New M+ dungeons | Tier set pieces |
|---|---|---|---|
| Curse of Ula'tek | 8 | 1 | 3 |
| Previous (TWW S3) | 9 | 1 | 3 |
| Previous (TWW S2) | 8 | 1 | 3 |
| DF S4 | 9 | 1 | 3 |
Curse of Ula'tek is standard issue for a WoW content patch. 8 raid bosses, 1 new M+ dungeon, 3 tier sets. Nothing revolutionary, but solid.
