VCT Champions Shanghai 2026 — every agent ranked from S to F
Every Valorant agent ranked for the VCT Champions Shanghai 2026 meta (Sept 24 - Oct 18, $2.25M, 16 teams, Mercedes-Benz Arena). S-tier: Clove, Sova, Jett, Killjoy. 25 agents across 4 roles, with map context and the best solo-queue picks.

Meta-defining. Clove, Sova, Jett, Killjoy — the four agents that every Champions Shanghai team will pick or ban. The agents that make the format work.
Strong in the right comp. Raze, Omen, Viper, Chamber, Fade, Cypher. Most of the second-pick phase is spent here.
Viable but situational. Phoenix, Sage, Breach, Skye, Neon, KAY/O, Brimstone. Picked when the S/A tier is banned or when the map demands it.
Niche. Reyna, Yoru, Harbor, Iso, Gekko, Deadlock. Outclassed in the current meta but viable in specific comps.
Out of the meta. Astra is the only D-tier pick — high skill floor, low reward in the Episode 14 meta.
How we ranked them
This tier list reflects the Episode 14 Act 4 meta (the patch that will be live for VCT Champions Shanghai 2026). The tournament runs Sept 24 - Oct 18 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, with 16 teams competing for a $2.25M prize pool. The format is group stage + double-elimination playoffs with a Bo5 Grand Final.
The rankings weight three things:
- Pick + ban rate at the VCT Masters Toronto + VCT EMEA/Americas/Pacific Stage 2 (the two most recent international LANs)
- Win rate when picked at those same events
- Map pool fit for the 7 maps in the Champions Shanghai pool (the standard 7 — Haven, Bind, Split, Ascent, Icebox, Lotus, Sunset)
Every agent links to the OFFLANE Valorant agents database for the full kit and ability list.
The 4 S-tier agents
Clove is the most-flexible agent in the game. The 9.07 buff to Not Dead Yet (now self-revives for 8s after death) made Clove the strongest controller in the pro meta. Clove can play smokes for a round, die, and come back — every other controller is gone when they die. Clove is the most-picked controller at the last two international LANs and shows up in 80%+ of pro series.
Sova is the most-picked initiator. The 9.07 Owl Drone cooldown reduction (45s → 35s) made Sova the highest-info initiator in the game. Every Champions Shanghai team has a Sova main. The agent is banned in ~60% of pro series.
Jett is the most-picked duelist. The 9.07 Blade Storm changes (right-click knife damage buffed, left-click dash cooldown reduced) made Jett the strongest entry fragger in the game. Jett is the most-picked duelist at the last two international LANs and is the duelist that every Champions Shanghai team either plays or bans.
Killjoy is the most-picked sentinel. The 9.07 Alarmbot range buff (16m → 22m) made Killjoy's setup the strongest in the game. Killjoy is in ~70% of pro series and is the sentinel that every team either plays or bans.
By role
The 4 S-tier agents are 1 from each role. The remaining ranks are organized by role to make the map-pool fit clearer.
Duelists (S/A tier, others situational)
The duelist pool is the deepest of any role. Six duelists are viable in the Champions Shanghai meta; three (Jett, Raze, Neon) are first-pick material.
- Jett — S-tier. The most-picked duelist. Best entry fragger and the only duelist with a true dash mobility.
- Raze — A-tier. The area-denial duelist. Best on maps with tight chokepoints (Bind, Split, Icebox). The Paint Shells + Showstopper combo is the strongest explosive ultimate in the game.
- Neon — B-tier. The speed duelist. Best on open maps (Lotus, Sunset) where her sprint can be used to take space. Outclassed by Jett in close-quarter maps.
- Phoenix — B-tier. The self-sufficient duelist. The 9.07 Blaze wall changes made Phoenix's flash combos stronger. Best in solo queue.
- Yoru — C-tier. The trickster duelist. High skill floor, low reward in the pro meta. The 9.07 Fakeout cooldown reduction (30s → 20s) helped but didn't fix the agent.
- Iso — C-tier. The shield duelist. The 9.07 Double Tap shield reduction (30s → 40s) made the agent weaker. Outclassed in the current meta.
Initiators (S/A tier, others situational)
The initiator pool is the second-deepest. Six initiators are viable; three (Sova, Fade, KAY/O) are meta-relevant.
- Sova — S-tier. The most-picked initiator. Best info agent in the game.
- Fade — A-tier. The control initiator. Best on maps with multiple angles (Lotus, Sunset). The Haunt + Seize combo is the strongest lockdown in the game.
- KAY/O — B-tier. The anti-sentinel initiator. The 9.07 FRAG/ment cooldown reduction (40s → 30s) made KAY/O more viable. Best against heavy-sentinel comps.
- Breach — B-tier. The flash initiator. Best on close-quarter maps (Bind, Icebox). The Fault Line + Flashpoint combo is the strongest close-range setup in the game.
- Skye — B-tier. The healer initiator. The 9.07 Regrowth range buff made Skye's heal stronger. Best in slow-round comps.
- Gekko — C-tier. The utility initiator. The Mosh Pit + Dizzy + Wingman kit is the most versatile in the game but requires strong utility management. Outclassed by Fade in the pro meta.
Controllers (S/A tier, others situational)
The controller pool is the shallowest of any role. Four controllers are viable; Clove is the only S-tier pick.
- Clove — S-tier. The most-picked controller. The self-revive + smoke-on-death kit is the strongest in the game.
- Omen — A-tier. The teleport controller. Best on maps with verticality (Ascent, Split). The From Shadows + Shrouded Step combo is the strongest mobility in the controller pool.
- Viper — A-tier. The line-of-sight controller. Best on maps with long sightlines (Bind, Icebox, Breeze). The Viper's Pit + Toxic Screen combo is the strongest map-control in the game.
- Brimstone — B-tier. The smoke controller. Best on maps with simple geometry. The Stim Beacon + Incendiary combo is the strongest utility in the game.
- Harbor — C-tier. The water controller. Outclassed by Clove in the pro meta. The Cove + High Tide combo is strong but the agent is harder to coordinate.
- Astra — D-tier. The galaxy controller. High skill floor, low reward. The 9.07 nerf to Nova Pulse made the agent even weaker.
Sentinels (S/A tier, others situational)
The sentinel pool is moderate. Five sentinels are viable; Killjoy is the meta pick.
- Killjoy — S-tier. The most-picked sentinel. The Alarmbot + Turret + Nanoswarm kit is the strongest setup in the game.
- Chamber — A-tier. The weapons sentinel. The Trademark + Headhunter + Rendezvous kit is the highest-fragging sentinel in the game. Best on maps with long sightlines.
- Cypher — A-tier. The info sentinel. The Spycam + Trapwire kit is the strongest info-gathering sentinel. Best in slow-round comps.
- Sage — B-tier. The healer sentinel. The Barrier Orb + Slow Orb + Resurrection kit is the strongest sustain in the game. Best in solo queue and on close-quarter maps.
- Deadlock — C-tier. The lockdown sentinel. The GravNet + Sonic Sensor + Annihilation kit is the strongest area-denial in the sentinel pool. Outclassed by Killjoy in the pro meta.

The Masters Toronto → Champions Shanghai meta shift
The Champions Shanghai 2026 meta is significantly different from the Masters Toronto meta (which ran in July). The major shifts:
Controller: Masters Toronto was dominated by Clove and Omen. The 9.07 changes to Clove (Not Dead Yet duration 8s) keep Clove as S-tier. The shift rewards self-sufficient controllers over coordination-dependent controllers.
Initiator: Masters Toronto was dominated by Sova and Fade. The 9.07 changes to Sova (Owl Drone cooldown 45s → 35s) keep Sova as S-tier. The shift rewards info-heavy initiators over control-heavy initiators.
Duelist: Masters Toronto was dominated by Jett and Raze. The 9.07 changes to Jett (Blade Storm right-click damage buff) keep Jett as S-tier. The shift rewards entry duelists over area-denial duelists.
Sentinel: Masters Toronto was dominated by Killjoy and Chamber. The 9.07 changes to Killjoy (Alarmbot range 16m → 22m) keep Killjoy as S-tier. The shift rewards setup sentinels over roaming sentinels.
The Masters → Champions shift is the smallest in 3 years — the 9.07 patch was tuned to keep the Masters meta stable through Champions. Teams that qualified through Stage 2 have already adapted; teams coming from the regional qualifiers need to catch up in the 3 weeks between Stage 2 and Champions.
Regional playstyle differences
The 4 VCT regions have different playstyle tendencies in the current meta. The Champions Shanghai 2026 meta rewards the following:
VCT EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa): EMEA has historically been the most strategic region. The 9.07 meta rewards slow defaults and post-plant setups. EMEA teams (Fnatic, Team Heretics, Team Liquid, KOI) are the favorites.
VCT Americas (North America, Brazil, LATAM): Americas has historically been the most star-driven region. The 9.07 meta rewards star duelists and aggressive entries. Americas teams (Sentinels, LOUD, NRG, Leviatán) are the dark horses.
VCT Pacific (Korea, Japan, SEA, Oceania): Pacific has historically been the most disciplined region. The 9.07 meta rewards utility usage and team coordination. Pacific teams (DRX, Paper Rex, Talon Esports, RRQ) are the wild cards.
VCT China (CN): China has historically been the most flexible region. The 9.07 meta rewards creative compositions and off-meta picks. China teams (EDward Gaming, Bilibili Gaming, All Gamers, FunPlus Phoenix) are the chaos agents.
The 4 regions meet in Shanghai for the first time since Champions 2024 (Los Angeles). The Shanghai crowd is expected to be heavily Pro-Pacific, especially for Paper Rex (the fan-favorite from Singapore).
The Bo5 draft strategy
The Knockout Stage at Champions Shanghai 2026 is double-elimination Bo5. The Bo5 format rewards a deeper agent pool and a more flexible draft strategy. The key Bo5 draft rules:
Rule 1: Ban the S-tier, not the A-tier. In a Bo5, banning the S-tier (Clove, Sova, Jett, Killjoy) is more valuable than banning the A-tier. The S-tier agents are pick-or-ban in 100% of series; the A-tier are pick-or-ban in ~50%.
Rule 2: Comfort over meta in the late game. The Bo5 series goes long. The 4th and 5th games favor the team with the deeper agent pool. Don't save your best players' signatures for the early games.
Rule 3: Flex agents matter in Game 5. The 5th game is the "blind pick" game (or near-blind). Flex agents (Clove can play smokes + flank, Chamber can play sentinel + duelist, Fade can play initiator + controller) are more valuable in Game 5.
Rule 4: Read the opponent's comfort pool. The Bo5 lets you scout the opponent's agent pool in the first 2 games. Use Games 1-2 to force the opponent off their comfort agents; use Games 3-5 to play your own.
Specific map-agent synergies
The 7-map pool for Champions Shanghai has specific map-agent synergies that reward strategic drafting. The top 3 map-agent combos:
Haven (3-site, 3-lane): The most multi-site map in the pool. The strongest comps use Clove (smokes for site control) + Sova (info for rotations) + Jett (entry for site takes) + Killjoy (setup for post-plant). The 4-agent core is the most-picked comp on Haven.
Bind (2-site, teleport-heavy): The most teleport-heavy map in the pool. The strongest comps use Viper (line-of-sight for B-long) + Raze (area-denial for showers) + Cypher (info for rotations) + Jett (entry for site takes). The 4-agent core is the most-picked comp on Bind.
Split (2-site, vertical-heavy): The most vertical map in the pool. The strongest comps use Omen (teleport for mid) + Clove (smokes for site control) + Raze (area-denial for heaven) + Cypher (info for vents). The 4-agent core is the most-picked comp on Split.
The 3 sleeper agents
These agents are A-tier or B-tier but have the potential to become S-tier at Champions Shanghai 2026. Watch for them in the group stage.
- Chamber sentinel/duelist — the weapons sentinel. Chamber's Headhunter + Trademark kit is the highest-fragging sentinel in the game. The agent is a flex sentinel/duelist and rewards mechanical aim.
- Fade initiator — the control initiator. Fade's Haunt + Seize combo is the strongest lockdown in the game. The agent is the most-picked initiator at the LCK/LPL Summer playoffs.
- Viper controller — the line-of-sight controller. Viper's Pit + Toxic Screen combo is the strongest map-control in the game. The agent is the most-picked controller on Bind and Icebox.
The 3 surprise agents to watch
These agents are B-tier or C-tier but have shown unexpected success at the regional Stage 2 playoffs. They could surprise at Champions Shanghai 2026.
