Overwatch 2 Season 18 launches August 26 with new support hero Wuyang
Overwatch 2 Season 18 launches August 26 with Wuyang (the first new support since Lifeweaver), the new Payload Race mode, Stadium Quick Play with crossplay, and Hero Progression 2.0. Free on every platform.

Overwatch 2 Season 18 launches August 26, 2026 at 11am PT / 7pm BST, ending the Season 17 cycle. The new season is one of the most-ambitious of 2026, with a new support hero, a new game mode, a major Stadium overhaul, and Hero Progression 2.0.
The new hero: Wuyang
Wuyang is the new support hero, the first new support since Lifeweaver (Season 4, 2023). Wuyang is a Chinese support hero with aquatic-themed abilities:
- Primary fire: Tidal Blast — channeled
beam that heals allies and damages enemies
- Secondary fire: Restorative Stream —
locks onto a single ally for sustained healing (similar to Mercy's Caduceus Staff)
- Tactical: Aqua Surge — sends a wave
of water that knocks back enemies and gives allies a small speed boost
- Ultimate: Raging Tides — summons a
large wave that heals all allies in its path and damages enemies
Wuyang is the first Chinese hero in Overwatch 2 and is the first new support hero in over 3 years. The hero was designed to be the most-beginner-friendly support in the game (similar in skill floor to Moira but with more utility).
Wuyang trial: August 14-18, 4 days before the full season launch. Available in Quick Play for the trial period.
The new mode: Payload Race
Payload Race is a new 6v6 mode in Stadium where each team pushes their own payload simultaneously. The team that pushes theirs furthest (or docks first) wins.
Two new maps ship with Payload Race:
- Temp's District (set in a fictional
Asian city district, near Kings Row)
- Powder Keg Mine (set in an
Australian mining colony, near Route 66)
Payload Race is the first OW2 mode with two simultaneous objectives. The strategic element is that teams can prioritize either pushing their payload or disrupting the enemy payload.
Stadium overhaul
Stadium gets 4 new heroes in Season 18:
- Winston (mid-season)
- Pharah (mid-season)
- Brigitte (mid-season)
- Tracer (mid-season)
And the new Stadium Quick Play mode:
- Best of 5 (was best of 7)
- Cross-play enabled (was
cross-play disabled)
- Backfill support (was no backfill)
- Shorter match times (~12 minutes,
was ~18)
Stadium Quick Play is the most-requested Stadium feature. It addresses the two biggest complaints: "Stadium matches are too long" and "Stadium doesn't have casual play."
Hero Progression 2.0
Hero Progression 2.0 is a full rebuild of the player progression system:
- Hero Level = time spent on a hero
- Progression Level = overall play time
- Animated Ascended borders at
milestone levels
- Loot Boxes at key breakpoints (every
25 levels)
- Permanent prestige system (auto-
prestiged after hitting level thresholds)
- Smoother UI (less clutter, clearer
progression)
Hero Progression 2.0 replaces the old Battle Pass level system. The new system is permanent, not seasonal.
