Overwatch 2 Wuyang launches August 26 — every change in Season 18
Season 18 brings the new aquatic Support hero Wuyang, a Stadium overhaul with 3 new heroes, mouse and keyboard support for consoles, and a new Hero Progression 2.0 system. The full patch breakdown.

Overwatch 2 Season 18 launches Tuesday, August 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM PT / 7:00 PM BST with Wuyang, the 44th hero in the Overwatch series, as its centerpiece. Wuyang had a free trial from August 14-18; the full release includes a new mythic skin for Sojourn, three Stadium heroes, mouse-and-keyboard support for consoles, and a major progression overhaul.
Wuyang — the aquatic Support
Wuyang is a Support hero that manipulates water to heal allies at range and push enemies back in team fights. His kit:
- Primary fire — Controllable Water Orb: a quick
tap launches it; hold-and-aim guides it midair toward a target. This is the first time a Support in OW2 has had a fully aimable projectile primary.
- Secondary fire — Tidal Burst: a short-range
knockback that displaces enemies.
- Defensive ability — Aqua Veil: a personal bubble
that absorbs damage and grants brief damage reduction.
- Ultimate — Tsunami: a long-range wave that
travels forward, healing allies in its path and knocking back enemies.
Wuyang's damage potential is intentionally low but his range and zoning are top-tier. He's being positioned as a back-line poke Support who can disrupt dive heroes without committing to close range.
Stadium overhaul
Stadium Quick Play gets a major refresh. Three heroes join the Stadium pool at Season 18 launch: Winston, Brigitte, and Pharah. Tracer joins at mid-season.
New Stadium features:
- Draft mode for Stadium
- Stadium Quickplay with crossplay enabled
- Stadium Endorsements (similar to the Overwatch 1
system)
- New payload-race mode with two new maps
- Perks expanded to more heroes
The Stadium hero pool at launch: Winston, Brigitte, Pharah + the existing roster. At mid-season: Tracer joins.
Mouse and keyboard on console
The headline console change: M+K input is now natively supported on PlayStation and Xbox. Matchmaking is split into two pools:
- Mouse and Keyboard Pool
- Controller Pool
PC players cannot enter the Controller Pool and cannot use aim assist. To play in the Controller Pool, you must be on console. Using unauthorized peripherals to bypass the Controller Pool restrictions is treated as cheating and may result in Battle.net account action.
This is the cleanest version of the OW2 input-silos experiment to date — Blizzard is finally separating the pools at the queue level rather than as a soft preference.
Hero Progression 2.0
A new progression system replacing the old per-hero levels:
- Ascended borders earned through play
- Cosmetics tied to progression milestones
- All existing hero levels preserved — no wipe or
reset, you keep everything you've earned
This is not a Battle Pass progression system. It's a parallel prestige system layered on top of the Battle Pass.
Mythic skin: Sojourn — Ultraviolet Sentinel
Season 18's mythic skin is for Sojourn — the Ultraviolet Sentinel. It has multiple styles, color palettes, and alters the sound effects and visuals of some of Sojourn's abilities (which not all mythics do). It unlocks at Season 18 launch through the Mythic Shop, using mythic prisms. Unused prisms from past seasons can be applied immediately.
First-time user experience
New players now have access to every hero from the start. The entry requirement for Competitive is lowered to 20 wins in Unranked matches (down from 50 quick play wins). This is a significant onboarding change — one of the biggest since OW2's 5v5 launch.
Other notable changes
- Summer Games event returns shortly after Season 18
launches.
- Advanced hero info panel in the hero select screen.
- Roadhog changes at launch.
- Competitive rank soft reset at Season 18 launch
(standard seasonal reset).
FAQ
When does Wuyang unlock?
Tuesday, August 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM PT, when Season 18 goes live. The hero is free for all players.
Will my hero levels and progress reset?
No. Hero Progression 2.0 is additive — your existing levels, unlocks, and cosmetics are preserved. The new system layers additional rewards on top.
Can console players use a mouse and keyboard now?
Yes, starting August 26. Console players can opt into the Mouse and Keyboard Pool. PC players cannot enter the Controller Pool even with a controller plugged in.
How does the Stadium draft mode work?
Each team bans one hero before the match starts, then drafts from the remaining pool. Standard tournament rules apply. Full details on the Stadium page once Season 18 ships.
Is the new Sojourn skin paywalled?
No — it's earned through Mythic Shop prisms, which come from the Battle Pass and from completing weekly challenges. The skin is technically free if you earn enough prisms; most players won't.
