Overwatch 2 Season 18 launches August 26 — Wuyang, Stadium Quick Play, Hero Progression 2.0

Overwatch 2 Season 18 — titled "Stadium Quick Play" — launches August 26, 2026, the biggest mid-year content drop in OW2's history. Headlines: a new Support hero (Wuyang), a crossplay unranked Stadium mode, the new Hero Progression 2.0 system, the return of the Summer Games event, and 50+ new hero-specific perks.

Wuyang — new Support hero

Wuyang is a Support hero from Wuxing University's Water College, the 44th hero in the Overwatch series. He uses aquatic powers to heal allies and push enemies away in team fights.

Abilities

  • Primary fire — water-based projectile

attack (heals allies, damages enemies)

  • Secondary fire — charged water blast

for burst damage

  • Ability 1 (Tidal Blast) — push enemies

back in a cone

  • Ability 2 (Aqua Ring) — sends a ring

of water to a teammate that heals and provides damage reduction

  • Ultimate (Riptide) — AoE water storm

that damages enemies and heals allies in the center

Hero Progression 2.0

Wuyang launches with the new Hero Progression 2.0 system. Every hero in the roster has 2 progression tracks:

  • Hero Level (cumulative time played on

the hero)

  • Progression Level (overall play time)

Hitting Progression milestones unlocks Ascended borders and other cosmetic rewards. The system is retroactive — existing players get credit for their lifetime play time on each hero.

Hero Skill Rating (new)

Each hero now has a Hero Skill Rating from 0-5000 (5000 = top Champion 1). The rating is per-hero and updates based on placements + ongoing matches. It does not affect matchmaking — it's a personal skill tracking system.

To qualify for Hero Skill Rating updates, you need 5 placement matches per hero, and the hero must be one of your top 3 most played in the match.

Stadium Quick Play

Stadium Quick Play is the unranked crossplay version of Stadium (the 5v5 hero-modifier game mode that launched earlier in 2026). The key differences:

  • Crossplay enabled — PC, PS5, Xbox

Series X|S all in the same lobbies

  • Unranked — no SR impact, no rank

decay, no placement matches

  • Faster queue times — 1-2 min

average, vs 3-5 min for ranked Stadium

  • Same Stadium mechanics — power

pickups mid-match, item shop between rounds, hero-specific abilities modified

Stadium Quick Play is the mode for casual players who want the Stadium experience without the SR pressure.

New hero perks (50+)

Every hero gets at least one new perk in Season 18. Highlights:

  • D.Va: Heavy Rockets perk removed;

Precision Fusion new (Reload to reduce Fusion Cannon spread by 75% for 3s)

  • Doomfist: One-Two perk updated (rocket

punch reloads Hand Cannon on wall hit); Aftershock new (Seismic Slam slows enemies by 30% for 1.5s)

  • Hazard: Spike Guard now only refills

ammo while dealing damage; Jagged Wall knockback reduced 50→40, HP 400→350

  • Wuyang has 4 unique perks (Overflow,

Balance, Ebb and Flow, Falling Rain) that affect his healing

  • Winston, Brigitte, Pharah added to

the Stadium Hero rotation

  • Tracer added to Stadium mid-season

(around Aug 30)

Hero roster changes

  • Console players can now use **mouse

and keyboard natively** on PS5/Xbox

  • Matchmaking pool rename: PC Pool →

"Mouse and Keyboard Pool", Console Pool → "Controller Pool"

  • Competitive reset — all hero

placements are reset for Season 18

Summer Games event

The classic Summer Games event returns Aug 26 - Sep 8 with:

  • Lucioball (3v3 soccer mode)
  • Winston's Beach Volleyball (4v4)
  • 50+ Summer Games cosmetic unlocks
  • Weekly challenges with bonus rewards

New maps

  • Powder Keg Mine (Stadium map)
  • Thames District (Stadium map)
  • Oasis Gardens (Stadium map, redesigned)

Item pool expansion

  • 3 new items added to Stadium
  • 10 major item reworks
  • 9 balance updates to existing items

Why Season 18 matters

Season 18 is the biggest OW2 update since Season 9 (the F2P launch in October 2022). The reasons it matters:

  1. **Wuyang is the first new Support since

Juno** (Season 11, June 2024) — 14 months without a Support release

  1. Stadium Quick Play unlocks the

Stadium mode for casual players — expected to be the most-played mode in Season 18

  1. Hero Progression 2.0 fixes the most

common complaint about OW2 (lack of long-term progression)

  1. Mouse and keyboard on console is a

long-requested feature finally shipping
