How we ranked them

This tier list reflects the August 2026 LoL meta (post Patch 25.17) for the Worlds 2026 Knockout Draft format.

The 3-2-1 pick-ban means the first 3 picks are the "first-pick" phase, the next 2 are "second-pick", and the final 1 is "last-pick". The format is designed to reward flex-picks and to reduce "must-ban" champions.

Rankings cover both professional play (the 16 Worlds teams) and solo queue climbing (Diamond+).

S tier: The 3 must-pick /

must-ban champions

Ambessa (S tier)

Ambessa is the S-tier top laner for Worlds 2026. The rework (Patch 25.14) gave her a 3-second cooldown on her E (Eclipse) and a +15% damage increase on her R (Hextech Ultimatum).

Ambessa is the most-banned champion in the LPL and LCK (combined ban rate 65% in Summer 2026). The first-pick in most games, the first-ban in others.

Vi (S tier)

Vi is the S-tier jungler for Worlds 2026. The 25.16 buff gave her +5 armor and +5% attack speed at level 1, which made her the most- dominant early-game jungler in the game.

Vi is the most-picked jungler in the LPL (78% pick rate in Summer Playoffs). Expect her to be the first jungler picked or banned in most Worlds games.

Smolder (S tier)

Smolder is the S-tier ADC for Worlds 2026. The 25.15 buff to his passive (Mount Targon) increased his late-game scaling by 8%, which made him the highest- DPS ADC in the late game.

Smolder is the most-picked ADC in the LPL and LCK (combined pick rate 70% in Summer 2026). The first ADC pick or ban in most Worlds games.

A tier: The 6 strong meta

picks

Sylas (A tier)

Sylas is the A-tier mid laner. The 25.14 buff gave him +10% ability power on his E (Abscond/Abduct) and his R (Hijack) is still the strongest team-fight ultimate in the game.

Sylas is the most-flex mid laner in the meta (he can be flexed to top in some comps). The 2nd or 3rd pick in most games.

Lee Sin (A tier)

Lee Sin is the A-tier jungler. The 25.13 nerf to his Q (Sonic Wave) reduced the execute damage from 30% to 25%, but his early- game pressure is still the highest in the game.

Lee Sin is the most-played jungler in LoL history (played in 95% of Worlds games since 2014). The 2nd or 3rd jungler pick in most games.

Nautilus (A tier)

Nautilus is the A-tier support. The 25.15 buff gave him +5 armor at level 1 and his hook (Dredge Line) is the most-reliable engage in the game.

Nautilus is the most-picked support in the LCK (65% pick rate in Summer). The first or second support pick in most games.

Milio (A tier)

Milio is the A-tier support. The 25.16 buff gave him +10% shield strength on his W (Cozy Campfire) and his R (Warm Hugs) is the best team-wide disengage in the game.

Milio is the most-banned support in the LPL (50% ban rate in Summer). The first- pick in most comps.

Caitlyn (A tier)

Caitlyn is the A-tier ADC. The 25.15 buff gave her +5% attack speed at level 1 and her passive (Headshot) is the highest poke damage in the game.

Caitlyn is the most-picked ADC in the LCS (60% pick rate in Summer). The 2nd or 3rd ADC pick in most games.

Jax (A tier)

Jax is the A-tier top laner. The 25.13 nerf to his Q (Leap Strike) reduced the bonus attack speed from 30% to 25%, but his split-push power is still the highest in the game.

Jax is the most-picked top laner in solo queue (15% pick rate in Diamond+). The 2nd or 3rd top pick in most games.

B tier: The 7 off-meta but

viable picks

Xin Zhao (B tier)

Xin Zhao was the S-tier jungler pre-25.17. The 25.17 VGU gave him a new kit, but the new Xin Zhao is slower than the old version and the jungle clear time increased by 8 seconds. He's still viable but no longer a first-pick.

Vayne (B tier)

Vayne was the S-tier ADC pre-25.17. The 25.17 jungle buff gave her +75% bonus damage vs monsters, but the ADC position is now Smolder's and the jungle position is still a niche. She's still viable in the right comp.

Sett (B tier)

Sett was the S-tier top laner pre-25.17. The 25.17 jungle buff gave him +80% damage vs monsters, but the top lane position is now Ambessa's and the jungle position is still a niche.

AP Irelia (B tier)

AP Irelia is the most-interesting B-tier pick. The 25.17 AP rework (W AP ratio 40→50%, E AP ratio 80→100%) made her a flex-pickable mid or top. She's a sleeper pick in the Knockout Draft.

Sett (B tier)

Already listed above.

Galio (B tier)

Galio is the A-tier mid laner in solo queue but the B-tier mid laner in pro play. The 25.15 nerf to his W (Shield of Durand) reduced the shield from 60% to 50% of max HP, which made him too squishy for the Worlds meta.

Karma (B tier)

Karma is the most-flex support in the game (she can be flexed to mid or top in some comps). She's a strong "second-pick" support in the Knockout Draft but not a "first-pick" support.

The 5 champions to avoid

Yasuo (avoid)

Yasuo has been a 50% win-rate champion in pro play since

  1. The 25.15 buff to his

crit damage was reverted, and he's back to the "win lane, lose game" archetype.

Zed (avoid)

Zed was the S-tier mid laner in 2024 but the 25.13 nerf to his W (Living Shadow) reduced the shadow duration from 5s to 4s, which made him too fragile for the 2026 Worlds meta.

Aphelios (avoid)

Aphelios is the most- mechanically-demanding ADC in the game. The 25.16 nerf to his Moonsilver weapons made him weaker in solo queue, and pro teams are avoiding him in favor of Smolder and Caitlyn.

Master Yi (avoid)

Master Yi was buffed in 25.17 (Q damage modifier 75→65%, base HP 669→655), but the jungle clear time is still 2-3 seconds slower than the meta junglers (Vi, Lee Sin, Xin Zhao). He's a 50% win-rate at best.

Gwen (avoid)

Gwen was nerfed in 25.17 (base armor 36→33, R slow 30→15/20/25%), which made her too fragile for the 2026 Worlds meta. She's a 50% win-rate at best in competitive.

What's next

The Worlds 2026 meta will shift after Patch 25.18 (the Worlds patch, expected Sep 24). The patch typically buffs 1-2 niche champions and nerfs 2-3 top picks, so the Knockout Draft pool will change slightly.

The next major meta shift will be the Season 4 launch in 2027, which is expected to add 3 new champions and a new Mythic item system.
