How we ranked them
This tier list reflects the Patch 25.18 meta (the patch that will be live for Worlds 2026). The tournament runs Sept 25 - Nov 2 at the Shanghai venues, with 17 teams competing for a $2.5M prize pool. The format is Play-In (4 teams) → Swiss (13 teams) → Knockout Stage (8 teams) with a Bo5 Grand Final on Nov 2.
The rankings weight three things:
- Pick + ban rate at the LPL/LCK/LEC/LCS Summer playoffs (the most recent regional finals)
- Win rate when picked at those same events
- Role fit for the Worlds 2026 patch 25.18 changes (which we'll cover below)
Every champion links to the OFFLANE LoL champions database for the full kit and stat block.
Patch 25.18 changes that matter
The patch that will be live for Worlds 2026 (25.18) ships with the following changes that affect the meta. The patch is on the PBE in mid-August; expect the live patch around Sept 10.
- Top lane: Ambessa gets a small buff (W cooldown 14s → 12s). This pushes Ambessa from A-tier to S-tier.
- Jungle: Wukong's R knockup duration is buffed (1.5s → 1.75s). The change makes Wukong the strongest skirmisher in the game.
- Mid: Aurora's Q AP ratio is buffed (40% → 50%). Aurora moves from A-tier to S-tier.
- ADC: Caitlyn's passive headshot damage is buffed (50% → 60% bonus damage). Caitlyn becomes the strongest lane-bully ADC.
- Support: Nautilus's Q cooldown is reduced (18s → 14s). Nautilus becomes the highest-CC support.
S-tier by role
Top lane: Ambessa
Ambessa is the strongest top laner in the 25.18 meta. The 25.18 W cooldown buff pushed Ambessa from "strong" to "must-pick or must-ban." Ambessa's kit (dash, shield, AoE knockup, execute) is the most complete top-lane kit in the game. Every Worlds 2026 team has an Ambessa game in their pocket.
Honorable mention: K'Sante (the second-strongest top), Yone (the scaling top), Jax (the split-push top).
Jungle: Wukong
Wukong is the strongest jungler in the 25.18 meta. The 25.18 R knockup duration buff made Wukong's ganks and team-fights significantly stronger. Wukong's clone mechanic is the strongest skirmish tool in the game. Every Worlds 2026 team has a Wukong game in their pocket.
Honorable mention: Viego (the carry jungler), Sejuani (the engage jungler), Maokai (the support jungler).
Mid lane: Aurora
Aurora is the strongest mid laner in the 25.18 meta. The 25.18 Q AP ratio buff pushed Aurora from "strong" to "must-pick or must-ban." Aurora's mobility + AoE damage + reset mechanic is the most complete mid-lane kit in the game. Every Worlds 2026 team has an Aurora game in their pocket.
Honorable mention: Azir (the scaling mid), Akali (the assassin mid), Orianna (the team-fight mid), Yone (the flex top/mid).
ADC: Caitlyn
Caitlyn is the strongest ADC in the 25.18 meta. The 25.18 passive headshot damage buff made Caitlyn the strongest lane-bully ADC in the game. Caitlyn's range advantage (650 AA range, the longest in the game) is the defining stat of the role. Every Worlds 2026 team has a Caitlyn game in their pocket.
Honorable mention: Lucian (the lane-bully ADC), Ezreal (the safe ADC), Kai'Sa (the scaling ADC), Jinx (the hyper-carry ADC).
Support: Nautilus
Nautilus is the strongest support in the 25.18 meta. The 25.18 Q cooldown reduction made Nautilus's pick potential significantly higher. Nautilus's hook + ult combo is the highest-CC support kit in the game. Every Worlds 2026 team has a Nautilus game in their pocket.
Honorable mention: Thresh (the playmaker support), Rakan (the engage support), Lulu (the enchanter support), Karma (the utility support).
The 5 champions to avoid
These champions are D-tier or below in the 25.18 meta. Avoid unless you have a very specific reason to pick them.
- Yorick top — outclassed by every S/A tier top in lane, team-fight, and split-push
- Evelynn jungle — high-skill, low-reward in the current skirmish meta
- Veigar mid — outclassed by every scaling mid (Azir, Orianna, Vex) in the current meta
- Kog'Maw ADC — outclassed by every hyper-carry ADC (Jinx, Kai'Sa, Aphelios) in the current meta
- Sona support — outclassed by every enchanter support (Lulu, Karma, Yuumi) in the current meta
The flex picks
A flex pick is a champion that can be played in 2+ roles. Flex picks are valuable in the Worlds 2026 format because each ban the opponent spends on a flex is a ban they're NOT spending on a specialist.
The 5 strongest flex picks in the 25.18 meta:
- Yone (top/mid) — the scaling carry. Yone is the most-picked top/mid flex in the LPL/LCK Summer playoffs.
- Sylas (mid/jungle) — the steal ultimate. Sylas is the most-picked flex in the major regions.
- Sejuani (jungle/top) — the engage frontline. Sejuani is the most-picked engage flex.
- Karma (support/mid) — the utility mage. Karma is the most-picked enchanter flex.
- Maokai (jungle/top/support) — the support frontline. Maokai is the most-picked frontline flex.
The 17 teams
The 17 teams are split across the four major regions plus Play-In. The full team list will be finalized after the LCS/LEC/LPL/LCK Summer finals in early September.
The format:
- Play-In Stage (Sept 25-28): 4 lower-seeded teams play a single round-robin. Top 2 advance to Swiss.
- Swiss Stage (Oct 1-13): 13 teams play 5 rounds of Bo1 (top 8 advance). Top 8 teams advance to Knockouts.
- Knockout Stage (Oct 16 - Nov 2): 8-team double-elimination bracket. Bo5 Grand Final on Nov 2 at the Shanghai venue.

The tournament runs Sept 25 - Nov 2, 2026 in Shanghai, with the Grand Final at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium. The full prize pool is $2.5M, with $1M to the winning team.
The MSI 2026 → Worlds 2026 meta shift
The Worlds 2026 meta is significantly different from the MSI 2026 meta (which ran in late May). The major shifts:
Top lane: MSI 2026 was dominated by K'Sante, Yone, and Jax. The patch 25.18 changes push Ambessa into S-tier and reduce K'Sante's priority. The shift rewards aggressive top laners over tanky initiators.
Jungle: MSI 2026 was dominated by Wukong, Viego, and Sejuani. The patch 25.18 changes keep Wukong as S-tier and add Maokai as a flex pick. The shift rewards skirmish junglers over scaling junglers.
Mid: MSI 2026 was dominated by Azir, Akali, and Orianna. The patch 25.18 changes push Aurora into S-tier and reduce Azir's priority. The shift rewards mobile mid laners over scaling mid laners.
ADC: MSI 2026 was dominated by Caitlyn, Lucian, and Kai'Sa. The patch 25.18 changes keep Caitlyn as S-tier and buff Aphelios. The shift rewards lane bullies over hyper-carries.
Support: MSI 2026 was dominated by Nautilus, Thresh, and Rakan. The patch 25.18 changes keep Nautilus as S-tier and buff Lulu. The shift rewards engage supports over enchanter supports.
The MSI → Worlds shift is the most significant in 3 years. Teams that qualified through the LPL/LCK Summer playoffs have already adapted; teams coming from the LEC/LCS need to catch up in the 3 weeks between Summer finals and Worlds.
Regional playstyle differences
The 4 major regions have different playstyle tendencies in the current meta. The Worlds 2026 patch rewards the following:
LCK (Korea): The LCK has historically been the most disciplined region. The patch 25.18 meta rewards disciplined farming and late-game shotcalling. The LCK teams (T1, Gen.G, DRX, KT Rolster) are the favorites.
LPL (China): The LPL has historically been the most aggressive region. The patch 25.18 meta rewards aggressive skirmishing and early-game ganking. The LPL teams (Bilibili Gaming, JD Gaming, Top Esports, Weibo Gaming) are the dark horses.
LEC (Europe): The LEC has historically been the most innovative region. The patch 25.18 meta rewards off-meta picks and creative compositions. The LEC teams (G2 Esports, Fnatic, MAD Lions, Team Heretics) are the chaos agents.
LCS (North America): The LCS has historically been the most import-dependent region. The patch 25.18 meta rewards roster depth and Bo5 prep. The LCS teams (Team Liquid, Cloud9, FlyQuest, NRG) are the long shots.
The 4th region (PCS, VCS, etc.) and the play-in teams are wildcards. The play-in stage will eliminate 2 teams before Swiss.
The Bo5 draft strategy
The Knockout Stage at Worlds 2026 is double-elimination Bo5. The Bo5 format rewards a deeper champion pool and a more flexible draft strategy. The key Bo5 draft rules:
Rule 1: Ban the S-tier, not the A-tier. In a Bo5, banning the S-tier (Ambessa, Wukong, Aurora, Caitlyn, Nautilus) is more valuable than banning the A-tier. The S-tier champions are pick-or-ban in 100% of series; the A-tier are pick-or-ban in ~50%.
Rule 2: Comfort over meta in the late game. The Bo5 series goes long. The 4th and 5th games favor the team with the deeper comfort pool. Don't save your best players' signatures for the early games.
Rule 3: Flex picks matter in Game 5. The 5th game is the "blind pick" game (or near-blind). Flex picks (Yone, Sylas, Sejuani, Karma, Maokai) are more valuable in Game 5 because they let you ban one slot and free up multiple pick options.
Rule 4: Read the opponent's comfort pool. The Bo5 lets you scout the opponent's champion pool in the first 2 games. Use Games 1-2 to force the opponent off their comfort picks; use Games 3-5 to play your own.
Specific matchups for S-tier picks
Here are the 5 most important S-tier champion matchups to watch at Worlds 2026:
Ambessa vs K'Sante (top): The 25.18 W cooldown buff makes Ambessa the lane bully. Ambessa wins the early game, K'Sante wins the team-fight. The matchup rewards aggressive play.
Wukong vs Viego (jungle): The 25.18 R knockup buff makes Wukong the stronger skirmisher. Wukong wins the early ganks, Viego wins the late-game team-fights. The matchup rewards early-game aggression.
Aurora vs Azir (mid): The 25.18 Q AP ratio buff makes Aurora the stronger lane bully. Aurora wins the early game, Azir wins the late-game scaling. The matchup rewards mid-lane skill.
Caitlyn vs Lucian (ADC): The 25.18 passive headshot buff makes Caitlyn the stronger lane bully. Caitlyn wins the poke, Lucian wins the all-in. The matchup rewards support synergy.
Nautilus vs Thresh (support): The 25.18 Q cooldown reduction makes Nautilus the stronger pick. Nautilus wins the pick, Thresh wins the roam. The matchup rewards jungle tracking.
The 3 sleeper picks
These champions are A-tier or B-tier but have the potential to become S-tier at Worlds 2026. Watch for them in the play-in stage.

- Maokai top/jungle/support — the utility frontline. The 25.18 buffs to Maokai's W cooldown make the champion more flexible. Maokai is the most-picked flex pick in the LPL/LCK Summer playoffs.
