The TI 2026 group stage ends on August 16 with the Elimination Round — 5 Bo3 matches between the 3-2 and 2-3 teams that determine the final 5 playoff slots. The 3 directly-qualified teams (TEAM VISION 4-0, Nigma Galaxy 4-1, Team Liquid 4-1) locked their upper-bracket seeds on Aug 15. Today's 5 Bo3 winners become seeds 4-8 in the double-elimination playoff bracket at the Oriental Sports Center, Shanghai (Aug 20-23).

Match 1 (02:00 UTC) — Team Falcons def. Vici Gaming 2-0
Series result: Team Falcons advances to the playoffs (seed 4-8). Vici Gaming is eliminated with the 13th-16th prize ($16K).

What it means: Team Falcons survive the elimination round. The TI 2025 defending champions avoid the ignominy of missing the playoffs entirely. The win was decisive — Skiter and Cr1t combined for 28 kills across the two games, and the team's macro play is back to form after the Day 3 2-1 loss to Nigma.
VG is out: Vici Gaming, the 2-time TI finalist (TI 2022, TI 2024 with BetBoom), exits at 13th-16th. The team's 2-3 record in the group stage was earned by losing to stronger competition. The Aug 16 sweep by Falcons was the first time the team was outclassed rather than narrowly defeated.

Series status: Series tied 1-1, game 3 underway as of 05:00 UTC. The CIS derby is the most-watched match of the day in the EU and CIS broadcast regions.
- Game 1 (03:00 UTC): BoomBoys (Radiant) 36-29 Aurora. BoomBoys take the first game in a high-kill back-and-forth. Nightfall's Puck was contested by gpk~'s mid-lane dominance for BoomBoys.

- Game 1 (04:32 UTC): Team Spirit (Radiant) 29-9 Resilience. Spirit's first game was a complete performance — Yatoro's carry and Collapse's offlane combination shut down Resilience's open-qualifier squad. The 20-kill differential is the largest in any game of the tournament so far.
What to watch: Spirit needs one more win to advance. Resilience, the Chinese open-qualifier team, has won 2 games all tournament (against VG and Xtreme Gaming) but has not faced a team of Spirit's caliber.
Match 4 (05:00 UTC) — Iron Wing vs GamerLegion (starting)
Series status: Match starting at 05:00 UTC. As of last update, the series is underway or about to begin.
The matchup: Iron Wing (ex-Tundra Esports roster of Pure, bzm, 33, Ari, Whitemon) is 3-2 and the deepest hero-pool team in the tournament. GamerLegion (the NA qualifier) is 2-3 with a 2-0 win over OG on Day 3.
What to watch: 33 is going for his 3rd Aegis of Champions. The two-time TI champion (TI 2022 Tundra, TI 2024 Team Liquid) would join Puppey (TI 1 Natus Vincere, TI 5 Secret) as the only players to win 3 Aegii if Iron Wing wins TI 2026. A win over GamerLegion is the first step.
Match 5 (08:00 UTC) — LGD Gaming vs Team Yandex (upcoming)
Series status: Match starts at 08:00 UTC. The final match of the elimination round.
The matchup: LGD (the South American open-qualifier team with Topson) is 3-2 after a 2-0 win over VG on Day 3. Yandex (the CIS open-qualifier team) is 2-3 after a 1-2 loss to Iron Wing on Day 3.
What to watch: Topson is the two-time TI champion (TI 2018, TI 2019 with OG). The mid-season substitution of Topson for TaiLung was the catalyst for LGD's 3-2 finish. A win over Yandex on Aug 16 would put Topson in the TI 2026 playoffs — the only player to make 7 consecutive TIs (TI 7 through TI 15).
Storylines
1. The CIS region's playoff chances. 5 of the 10 Elimination Round teams have CIS-region ties: Aurora, Team Spirit, Team Falcons, BoomBoys, and Team Yandex. With Falcons already advancing, 3 of 4 remaining matches feature a CIS team. If 3 or more CIS teams qualify for the playoffs, it would be the largest CIS representation in a TI main event since 2018.
2. The Iron Wing redemption arc. Iron Wing (ex-Tundra Esports) is in the elimination round despite a strong Day 1 2-0 over HULIGANI. The team's 3-2 record is the best of any 3-2 team on paper. A win over GamerLegion would put 33 (two-time TI champion) in the upper bracket of the playoffs.
3. The Topson factor. Topson's potential 7th consecutive TI is one of the most remarkable career longevity stories in Dota 2 esports. A win over Yandex would put him in the playoff bracket for the 5th time in his career.
